In a move that recognises the growing importance of content discovery and navigation in the multiscreen entertainment age, Motorola Mobility has acquired SetJam, a television and movie directory.
“Motorola and SetJam share the vision of making content delivery, discovery, and consumption seamless across any screen, and as a world leader in video technology, Motorola will provide us with unprecedented levels of reach and distribution,” said Ryan Janssen, chief executive of SetJam.
SetJam originated as a Web site for finding videos online. It competed with other similar companies including Clicker and SideReel. More recently the company has been working on personalisation technology that can be integrated into connected devices to provide recommendations.
Google is in the process of buying Motorola Mobility, so it will eventually have access to the technology as well. Earlier in 2011, Google said it would pay $12.5 billion for Motorola Mobility. The acquisition is still under regulatory review. No financial terms have been disclosed for the SetJam deal.
