Prasar Bharati, India’s public broadcaster, says it has already converted about 70 percent of its analogue terrestrial transmitters to digital.
It adds it will have converted the remaining analogue transmitters to digital by March 31st next year. However, India will retain about 50 analogue transmitters for “strategic use”.
The conversion task is considerable and covers 412 analogue transmitters.
Prasar Bharati described the analogue process as being obsolete and the conversion to digital would enable 5G to be employed.
