Sofia Digital enabled OSNtv, an entertainment hub and pay-TV operator serving the Middle East and North Africa, to launch the service in the Middle East and North Africa allowing Samsung Smart TV users to access OSNtv without the need for a set-top box.
The solution, including the operator’s own custom user interface with integrated video player, is built on the HbbTV Operator Application standard and TVkey Cloud technologies. It delivers an unmatched viewing experience to pay-TV subscribers that safeguards long-term content investments with security built directly into the connected TV chipset.
OSNtv customers are now ready to enjoy a true hybrid live TV experience, providing access to OSNtv’s linear TV and on-demand content, all integrated directly into the television’s user interface and remote control. OSNtv’s user interface supports both English and Arabic, enhancing the standard TV viewing experience by replacing key elements like Live TV, the TV guide, and the channel list while also providing access to OSNtv’s full video-on-demand library. This ensures a seamless and intuitive user experience across all content.
Sofia Digital’s expertise in hybrid broadcast and broadband services was instrumental in developing the application and enhancing the user experience. The unique nature of TVkey technology and the objective of mirroring the set-top box experience within a TV app presented an exciting challenge for both design and implementation. Achieving this required close collaboration with the client, technology vendors, manufacturers, and the application development team.
“With the launch of TVkey Cloud, OSN is adopting innovative solutions that go beyond traditional set-top boxes to drive growth, expand service reach, and monetise content,” added Morten Solbakken, Executive Vice President and COO, Nagravision. “We’re excited to launch this first-of-its-kind service in the Middle East and North Africa with Samsung and Sofia Digital and provide OSNtv with a new and secure distribution channel for premium content.”
“At Samsung, our goal is to empower consumers with technology that matters. The launch of the new TVkey Cloud service is testament to that, delivering added value to our consumers enjoying OSN services on our Samsung connected TVs,” said Mustafa Sadick, Head of TV & AV Group, Samsung MENA. “By collaborating with partners like OSN and Nagravision, we’re able to bring the best of content solutions and technology together, creating a viewing experience that is truly unparalleled.”
