Spain’s largest telco Movistar has been fined €6 million for discriminatory actions against its rivals when repairing breakdown in its copper and FTTH networks used by third parties.

The company took too much time and delayed without justified cause the provision of its services when repairing breakdowns in the networks used by its competitors. The regulatory body CNMC has verified that the breaks of the competition law took place through 2017 and 2018.

“Following the investigation, CNMC has proved that Telefónica has breached the obligation of no discrimination”, said the body in a statement.

The CNMC says that Movistar repaired its own breakdowns in a timely manner when affecting its own clients, but under worse conditions and taking more time when applying to third parties. This is a serious breach of the Ley General de Telecomunicaciones – the Telco Law.
