From David Del Valle in Madrid
Vodafone has selected China’s Huawei to upgrade ONO’s network – with the goal of offering 7.7 million residential and businesses units up to 2 Gigabytes speed in two to three years’ time.
With an investment of €100 million, in an initial phase the download speed will reach 1 Gbps and the upload speed will hit 120 or 130 Mbps. In a later phase, using Docsis 3.1 technology, the speed will be 2 Gbps in download and 1 Gbps in upload.
ONO was acquired by Vodafone in 2014 for €7.2 billion. All in all, Vodafone’s FTTH network is currently reaching 9.5 million units.
