Mometu shuttering streaming service
May 12, 2026
Mometu, the free streaming platform launched in 2022 dedicated to independent, international and underserved cinema, has announced it will officially close its service on May 31st.
“From the beginning, Mometu was built around the idea that great stories deserve to be seen, regardless of budget, language, or mainstream visibility,” said Bryan Louzil, President of Mometu. “We are incredibly proud of what we created, and deeply grateful to every filmmaker, collaborator, and viewer who supported the platform along the way.”
Over its run, Mometu partnered with distributors and independent creators across multiple territories, helping bring distinctive content to new audiences through its AVoD and FAST model.
While the platform itself will shut down, Mometu has suggested this may not necessarily be the end of the brand entirely.
“We still believe in the mission that drove Mometu,” Louzil added. “Though the platform is going dark for now, the passion for independent storytelling remains unchanged.”
Mometu will remain operational through the end of May, with audiences still able to stream content free of charge until the service officially concludes.
