RTVE’s Teledeporte to go OTT
November 18, 2019
From David Del Valle in Madrid
Spain’s public broadcaster RTVE is proposing to close down Teledeporte, its DTT sports TV channel, and turn it into a streaming service only available online.
The move is aimed at cutting costs in the TV group, saving some €20 million a year. RTVE pays around €5 million a year to Cellnex, the domestic broadcasting agency, for each of its DTT signals. With the decision, RTVE could only operate one multiplex including its four DTT channels -La 1, La 2, Clan and Canal 24 Horas.
Teledeporte currently has a poor audience rate of 0.4 per cent with around 40,000 viewers on average.
