France: TF1 fails to reach Orange distribution deal
February 1, 2018
The TF1 Group has failed to reach an agreement with Orange for the continued distribution of its MYTF1 catch-up service and unencrypted channels.
TF1 said it was “disappointed” with the outcome and noted that it had been successful in reaching broadcast deals with Altice and Bouygues in recent weeks. The terms of those agreements were equivalent to the ones offered to Orange, TF1 said.
The contract TF1 had with Orange expired on January 31st so, effective immediately, Orange is no longer authorised to ofer MYTF1 or TF1’s TV channels to subscribers, although the possibility of a new deal remains.
Gilles Pelisson, Chairman and CEO at TF1, commented: “Our goal remains to find a balanced and fair agreement to provide viewers Orange subscribers a value-added experience around our channels. Their satisfaction is our priority and we remind them that the replay channel TF1 Group remains available on MYTF1.fr and via MYTF1 implementation. ”
