Popular Franco-German culture channel Arte is to add English and German language programming thanks to help from the European Commission.
The EC is funding the extra costs in order to produce about 12 hours of quad-lingual content per week.
High on Arte’s targets are to add these multi-language audio tracks to its high-end ‘Tracks’, ‘Arte Reportage’ and ‘Metropolis’ arts-themed output.
The programming is already available on Arte’s web-site and is available on the broadcaster’s VoD and ‘catch-up’ services. The output will also be available via ‘smart’ TVs by the end of this year.
Arte France chairwoman Veronique Cayla said the company is considering a channel in Polish and another in Italian.
