Solid H1 for Eutelsat
February 12, 2015
By Chris Forrester
Eutelsat has issued its first half-year results and reported that “positive dynamics” in the Latino market had helped the satellite operator turn in some appealing numbers.
Video revenues were up 3.5 per cent to €452.4 million, helped by good performance at Satmex (now renamed Eutelsat Americas, and a renewed 7-transponder deal with Poland’s nc+.
Eutelsat says that it is now transmitting a record 5,741 channels, up 13 per cent y-o-y. HDTV transmissions were now carried by 11.4 per cent of its channels (up from 10.6 per cent) and in Europe this translated to 657 HD channels.
Perhaps most satisfying of all, the operator’s all-important ‘backlog’ of contracts already in place grew y-o-y by an impressive 14.4 per cent to €6.1 billion, although this is slightly down of the €6.3 billion position as at September 30th. However, the slight fall does not include the recent nc+ contract renewal and which was not included in the December 30th position.
