Single-source OTT delivery from Vimond, Akamai
April 11, 2012
Online TV platform Vimond Media Solutions is teaming up with cloud platform specialist Akamai in a deal that will allow Vimond to bundle Akamai’s media distribution services with its own online video platform. The partnership means Vimond can offer broadcasters and service providers a single source for designing, deploying, and supporting over-the-top (OTT) services.
“Because of our deep competence and experience launching high-quality OTT services, many of our customers often ask us for assistance in selecting and commissioning their video distribution infrastructure,” said Helge Høibraaten, CEO of Vimond. “This partnership is a natural extension of what is already a good collaboration with Akamai.”
Vimond is now a member of Akamai’s NetAlliance Partner Programme, which recognises companies whose products or services focus on assisting customers in managing the delivery of information and applications over the Internet.
The pair suggest the partnership will benefit customers by defragmenting the often complex ecosystem of solutions needed to deploy OTT services. Instead of having to buy distribution services from Akamai, video publishing tools from Vimond, and other services from a third party, a customer can get this range of products and professional services directly from Vimond.
“Vimond has been a valued direct Akamai customer for years, so harnessing the company’s expertise as part of our broader digital media ecosystem of partners was a natural next step,” said David Keane, director of channel sales, EMEA, at Akamai.
