October 2, 2017
From Pascale Paoli-Lebailly in Paris
Catch-up TV totalled 506.9 millions views in July in France, down 7 per cent over one month but up 1.5 per cent over the year to 3.9 billion videos viewed. Some 79.5 per cent of French broadband users watch catch-up, and TV remains the most popular device to watch on.
According to the CNC monthly replay barometer – that acquires programme data from 23 channels – 23,321 hours of content are now available through catch-up services, a 12.3 per cent increase over one year.
Over 3 in 5 (60.3 per cent) of the requested videos are long-shelf programmes like youth content, documentaries, TV series and movies. 80.2 per cent of content is available on a 30 days basis.
Online TV viewing shows the same trend, the CNC reports. Despite an 8.2 per cent decrease from June to July, it registers a 3.3 per cent growth over one year to 601.5 million views.
