Data: Streaming consumption up significantly post-Covid

May 2, 2025

It is well known that the pandemic increased streaming consumption – and now Kantar Media TGI has put a percentage on that.  It has compared data on consumer sentiment and behaviour data for media consumption and found that, in March 2019, 26 per cent of British adults agreed that online TV streaming means they now watch more television than before. But by January 2025 this had jumped up to 35 per cent.

In addition, 53 per cent of British adults agree today that TV streaming has changed the way they consume television – jumping up from 39 per cent in 2019.

Use of multiple SVoD services has also increased significantly. In 2019, 9 per cent of adults claimed to have accessed both Netflix and Prime Video within the last month. Today that figure is 27 per cent and steadily increasing. Indeed, the proportion of people accessing Netflix, Prime Video  and Disney+ in the last month is now also significantly higher compared to 2019, standing at 14 per cent today.
