Google buys Mandiant cloud security for $5.4bn

Google is buying Mandiant for $5.4 billion (€4.9bn) to strengthen its Google Cloud cybersecurity offering. The price is a 57 per cent premium on Mandiant’s share price before media reports of a potential bid emerged.
Mandiant is expected to provide enhanced services to support customers on premises and in the cloud. It’s known for detecting a number of large-scale cyber-attacks, discovered through its work as a strategic security advisor and provider of incident response services.
Mandiant will expand Google Cloud’s range of automated security tools. With its Automated Defence helping customers analyse, prioritise and streamline threat response and leverage Mandiant’s expertise as a virtual extension of their teams.
Mandiant reported revenues of $483 million in 2021, up 21 per cent from the previous year. The acquisition is still subject to stockholder and regulatory approvals and is expected to close later this year.
