Digitalsmiths: Big appetite for à la carte
September 22, 2015
Findings from the latest Video Trends Report from personalised content discovery technology specialist Digitalsmiths, a TiVo company, suggest that nearly 80 per cent of survey respondents are interested in an à la carte pay-TV service where they can select, and pay for only the channels they want to watch.
Based on the premise that the majority of consumers do not watch many of the channels offered to them, Digitalsmiths enquired if there was demand for an à la carte pay-TV package.
Among the findings:
-
79.4 per cent of respondents are interested in an à la carte pay-TV service where they can select, and pay for only the channels they want to watch.
-
On average, respondents’ ideal à la carte package would consist of 17 to 18 channels.
-
On average, respondents said the most they would pay for their ideal à la carte package was $39.50 a month.
-
57.5 per cent of respondents were aware of OTT services that provide skinny packages with linear TV such as CBS All Access, Hulu, PlayStation Vue, and Sling TV.
