Details are emerging of a Mexican invitation to tender for almost 14 million computer-style digital TV receivers, capable of being fully ‘smart’ with HTMI and USB ports.

Mexico’s government has earmarked a total of $2.02 billion for the supply of the units, which must be low-power and 24” in size. The tender document is issued by the country’s Communications & Transportation Ministry (SCT).

The TV sets will go to low-income families and those in receipt of state benefits.
