Kenya has maintained its lead amongst African nations by being one of the first to switch off its analogue TV transmissions. The main Nairobi transmission tower will go dark – as far as analogue TV is concerned – on December 13th. However, this is still later than originally planned.

The original scheme called for Kenya, and the other East African nations, switching off last December, but only Tanzania got close when it switched off its capital city’s Dar Es Salaam transmitter on January 1st this year.

Phase 2 of the Kenya operation is set for March 30th next year when Mombasa and the coastal region of Kenya will switch off, followed by all other parts of the country by June 30th 2014.
