BBFC Create the Card Competition for Wicked: For Good
August 28, 2025

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), in partnership with Universal Pictures, has announced the launch of the latest Create the Card Competition, celebrating the return to Oz in Universal Pictures’ Wicked: For Good, debuting UK cinemas on November 21st – which sees Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo return to screens as Glinda and Elphaba
The nationwide competition calls on children aged 4 to 11 to design the official BBFC Black Card for the film. The winning design will be shown before every UK cinema screening of Wicked: For Good, giving one talented young artist the chance to become part of cinema history.
Primary-school-aged children are encouraged to draw upon the central themes of Wicked: For Good – friendship, empowerment and embracing what makes us different. While competition entrants are invited to depict any aspects of the world of Wicked, those who choose to include Glinda or Elphaba must feature both characters together to represent “the iconic Oz duo”. Entries will be judged on creativity, originality, and on how well they capture the spirit of the film. The winner will be unveiled in November, just in time to step into the spotlight.
This is the first time the BBFC has run two Create the Card Competitions in a year, and follows the success of the recent initiative for secondary school children, where 14-year-old Elsie from Eastbourne won with her striking design for Superman earlier this year. Her prize included a meet-and-greet with the film’s cast and filmmaker.
President of the British Board of Film Classification, Natasha Kaplinsky OBE, said: “At the BBFC, we are delighted to be partnering with Universal Pictures to offer 4-11 year olds the Oz-some opportunity to unleash their creativity to design the official BBFC Black Card for Wicked: For Good. From Glinda’s pink sparkle to Elphaba’s emerald energy, we’re looking for artwork that’s unlimited in imagination. Let your creativity defy gravity and follow your yellow brick road for the chance to become part of cinematic history… for good.”
Kezia Williams, Managing Director UK & Eire, Universal Pictures International, added: “We’re thrilled to be partnering with the BBFC on this year’s Create the Card Competition. Wicked: For Good is the most anticipated film of the year: the epic conclusion to last year’s cinematic sensation. We’re so excited to offer young fans across the UK the chance to be part of this cultural moment. The winning design will be seen on the big screen before every UK screening of Wicked: For Good, making this a truly unforgettable opportunity. We can’t wait to see the creativity and imagination that children across the UK bring to their designs.”
