OneWeb Satellites will start building its first satellites from its brand-new Florida production facility in January.
The Exploration Park factory, itself a joint-venture between OneWeb and Airbus Defence & Space, will build a target 900 satellites at the initial rate of 2 a day for the $6 billion mega-constellation.
OneWeb has two production lines at the factory, which employs about 170 staff divided between Florida and Toulouse where an initial 10 demonstration were built and should be launched by Arianespace in February next year.
The news emerged from a presentation by Pierre Bertrand, OneWeb Satellite’s Assembly Line project manager, at a satellite conference in Luxembourg.
Bertrand confirmed that the joint-venture was also looking for other third-party satellite building work.
