Fremantle lands France TV presale for An Hour on Earth
June 23, 2026
Fremantle and France TV have announced a presale of An Hour on Earth (w/t), a four-part series that captures the most critical moments in the day when the natural world bursts into life.
Using pioneering seamless filming techniques, each episode explores the fleeting ‘magic hours’ when conditions are just right and animals spring into action. From the rush hour just after dawn in the Kalahari as desert creatures race to beat the rising heat, to the hour after rainfall in the Amazon when the forest erupts with activity, and the moments around low tide on Australia’s coral reefs, the series reveals nature at its most urgent and alive.
Filmed across four extraordinary ecosystems, An Hour on Earth takes viewers on a visually immersive journey through these time-critical windows, capturing wildlife behaviours that are rarely seen. Combining fast-moving FPV drone cinematography with innovative storytelling, the series moves seamlessly between locations to show how life on Earth is shaped by these narrow, high-stakes moments.
Following the previous announcement made by the BBC and PBS, the presale to France TV reflects the strong international demand for distinctive, premium factual programming and underlines Fremantle’s ongoing partnerships with leading public service broadcasters.
Al De Azpiazu, SVP Distribution at Fremantle (French & German Speaking Europe, Italy, Spain & Portugal), said: “Combining premium natural history storytelling with a distinctive time-led concept, this series has strong appeal for international broadcasters – and this presale is a great example of that demand. We’re very pleased to have secured this deal with France TV, which is a fantastic home for it. We’re looking forward to building on this momentum and bringing the series to further partners across our territories.”
Céire Clark, VP Non‑Scripted Acquisitions at Fremantle, commented: “We’re delighted to partner with France TV on this truly distinctive natural history series that brings a fresh and cinematic perspective to the natural world. Its innovative storytelling and cutting-edge filming techniques create something genuinely original for audiences, and we’re proud to be working with Offspring Films, BBC and PBS on this ambitious project.”
Caroline Behar, Head of France TV International Coproductions and Acquisitions, added: “France TV commissions this ambitious project with a talented and innovative production team. This series is a distinctive proposition in the field of natural history. It promises a bold aesthetic journey but also an ecologic consciousness awakening. France TV is proud to partner with Fremantle on such a high level production. Cinematic seamless shoots will offer our audience an immersive experience with mother nature.”
Produced by Offspring Films for BBC Two, iPlayer and PBS, An Hour on Earth (w/t) is executive produced by Alex Williamson, Isla Robertson and Sam Hodgson, with Dan Perowne serving as Series Producer. The PBS Executive in Charge of Production is Diana El-Osta. Fremantle is handling global distribution.
It was commissioned by Jack Bootle, Head of Commissioning, Specialist Factual, and the Commissioning Editor is Tom Watt-Smith, Head of Commissioning, Natural History.
The series is due to air globally in 2027.
