Community Fibre hits 400k connections
September 9, 2025
Community Fibre, the London broadband network, reports it has connected more than 400,000 homes and businesses across the capital, serving over 1.4 million users.
With a fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) network covering 1.3 million properties in London, it has seen a 33 per cent increase in its customer base in the past year, reaching a network penetration rate of 30 per cent. This makes Community Fibre, which is backed by private equity firms Warburg Pincus & DTCP, the No. 1 major Alternative Network (Altnet) in the UK by customer penetration.
Community Fibre says it has seen strong adoption of its high-speed products, with the majority of its customers on speeds of 1 Gbps or above, as well as an increased take-up of its 5 Gbps and 2.5 Gbps products, London’s fastest and second fastest speeds, highlighting the consumer demand for multigig speeds, enabled by Community Fibre’s XGS-PON network.
Following the announcement of Community Fibre posting its first profit in 2024, the Altnet says financial performance continues to improve in line with customer growth and falling costs to attract and service customers. It is on course for an annualised EBITDA of £70 million by year-end, building on a current run rate of over £50 million, supported by customer growth and ongoing efficiency improvements in our cost base.
As a result of the company milestone, Community Fibre says its customer base is now large enough to introduce new products, such as its newly launched data roaming eSIM.
In addition, following the latest launch of its strategic wholesale partnership agreement with VodafoneThree, the ISP anticipates the milestone will help provide access to a more extensive customer base, thereby facilitating further growth and reinforcing the company’s status as a significant entity in the wholesale market.
Graeme Oxby, Chief Executive Officer of Community Fibre, commented: “Our relentless focus on network and sales excellence, lean operations, and industry-leading service is the foundation for sustainable success in the Altnet market. Community Fibre continues to prove that new broadband competition can not only be financially sustainable in the long run, it can also deliver meaningful advantages to UK society.”
Olaf Swantee, Community Fibre Chairman, added: “These latest results confirm that Community Fibre is almost unique amongst the UK’s altnet broadband networks, achieving the financial stability which creates the platform for further growth.”
