Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix, has announced an investment of more than €1 billion in Spanish content production between 2025 and 2028.
The streaming company, which is celebrating a decade since its arrival in Spain, reinforced its commitment to the local audiovisual industry at an event attended by the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Service, Óscar López. The conference took place at the production hub that Netflix opened in Tres Cantos (Madrid) in 2019, which is its largest filming facility in the European Union.
“Coming to Spain is always exciting, but this trip is particularly special — because this year Netflix is celebrating our 10th anniversary in Spain. For the last decade, we have been on an incredible journey alongside all of you. Together, we have brought local series and films to our members here and around the world. More than 1m000 Spanish titles since 2017,” said Sarandos during a keynote. “We have filmed in over 200 cities and towns across every autonomous community in Spain — and we still haven’t run out of beautiful places to film. This has brought to the screen all the different sides of Spain. It has led to real economic benefits in communities across the country. And it has helped support more than 20,000 jobs in the Spanish audiovisual sector.”
Sarandos pointed out that, in 2024 alone, Spanish titles such as Society of the Snow and Money Heist, generated over 5 billion hours of viewing on Netflix.
.I am honoured today to announce that over the next four years we plan to invest over €1 billion in Spain. With this investment, we will be able to contribute even more to the Spanish economy. Create more Spanish jobs. Tell more great stories made in Spain. Support the next generation of creative talent here in Spain,” confirmed Sarandos.
“We commend Spain for its efforts and commitment to the audiovisual sector. We look forward to working with you and your teams to grow the economy, create opportunity and bring more of this beautiful, rich Spanish heritage to the world. The last 10 years have been nothing short of extraordinary — and we look forward to the next 10 years and beyond,” he concluded.
