EchoStar-owned Hughes Network Systems has been selected by Cairo-based Nilesat for a local gateway which will use Nilesat’s 301 satellite.
Hughes will supply one of its Jupiter Gateways and installation will begin shortly and be complete by the end of Q3.
Commenting on the deal, Sameh Katta, Chairman/CEO of Nilesat, said: “The Nilesat vision is to be the role model for satellite services in the MENA region. After careful technical and commercial evaluation, we verified that the Hughes Jupiter System provided the efficiency, reliability, flexibility and high performance needed to help us offer the best service delivery to Nilesat subscribers.”
Vaibhav Magow, VP at Hughes, added: “The need for internet access is growing in the MENA region, and Hughes is pleased to be working with Nilesat to deliver access to rural areas. Our Jupiter System is the de facto standard for satellite connectivity, and it will serve Nilesat very well.”
