Mediawan’s move to acquire distribution and production group Lagardère Studios has been given a green light from the French Competition Authority.
The company’s founding trio – Pierre-Antoine Capton, Mathieu Pigasse and Xavier Niel – have also been authorised to get a full and joint control on Mediawan, having previously owned a 20 per cent stakes.
Mediawan’s activity encompasses TV production, distribution and TV broadcast. The group aims to become a European heavyweight and also announced in July the acquisition of Spanish company Good Mood and a minority stake in German group Leonine.
The acquisition of Lagardère Studios allows Mediawan to extend its reach into four countries, France, Finland, Spain and The Netherlands.
The company now owns 20 production companies and generated a turnover of €218 million in 2019.
