Eleven Sports to test PPV model in Portugal
December 3, 2019
From Branislav Pekic in Rome
Eleven Sports plans to test the ‘pay-per-view’ model on its platform in the Portuguese market.
The test-run will take place this weekend, with the boxing bout between Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz, and could then be extended to other sporting events.
The heavyweight boxing rematch on December 7th “will be a first test” of this concept that the UK-based broadcaster has already introduced in other European markets as well as the US, Jorge Pavão de Sousa, general director of Eleven Sports, told daily Jornal de Negócios.
The cost of the event will be €4.99 – half of the total monthly subscription fee to the channel.
Eleven Sports’ intention is to apply PPV to other sports in the future, directed at a niche audience that is willing to pay a premium for access.
