DreamHack and Superliga create eSuperliga
October 11, 2018
MTG’s DreamHack has entered a multiyear media partnership with Discovery Networks Denmark and Danish Superliga, the highest football league in Denmark, in-line with MTG’s strategy to nurture the eSports ecosystem and ignite expansion into larger audiences.
The inaugural season kicks off November 5th and will span 7 weeks. It will see top-tier Danish football clubs competing for a prize pool of €50,000 in EA Sports FIFA 19 as part of the Official League Qualifying events in the FIFA 19 Global Series.
eSuperliga will be streamed on Dplay and broadcast live twice a week on Canal 9 in a studio setting that will boast well-known sports commentators and pundits with extensive knowledge of the FIFA gameplay.
Peter Nørrelund, EVP, Head of Product Development and Incubation, and Co-CEO of DreamHack commented: “MTG has been partners with Superliga for 20 years, and the new competitive gaming tournament is a natural digital evolution of the most watched sports league in Denmark. Together with Electronic Arts’ hit FIFA 19 as the playing field, we are creating a first-class esports product tailored for TV viewers, with superior production quality, consistent schedule and gripping storytelling around the action.”
