PT Telkom’s Telkom-1 satellite which suffered problems on August 25th is now considered totally lost.
Specialist space debris tracking company ExoAnalytic Solutions has observed several large pieces which have been tracked individually, separate to the actual satellite.
ExoAnalytic can track objects down to as 0.4 metres in size, and carried out similar work back in June for SES when it had problems with its AMC-9 satellite.
PT Telkom have issued statements saying that the satellite has been disabled, and is unable to be lifted to a normal ‘graveyard’ orbit.
