South Africa’s Multichoice/DStv dominates pay-TV in Zimbabwe. But there’s a new player in town in the shape of StarTimes-backed DTH service StarSat.
StarTimes/StarSat is now operational in 16 sub-Saharan African countries, and such is its impact that in Nigeria – for example – StarTimes is now occupying the number 1 pay-TV slot. StarTimes says it now has 8 million paying subscribers in Africa.
A StarSat decoder costs $36 (US dollars are the official currency in Zimbabwe), with bundles ranging from $9-$19.
