Argentina forbids telcos any DTH action

Argentina has amended its proposed Digital Law. The result, if approved and passed into law, will forbid telephone companies to enter into DTH satellite entertainment broadcasts.
The new rule means that the local telco giants such as Telefónica, Claro and others, many of which are active in broadcasting DTH platforms in neighbouring Latin American countries, will not be permitted to expand into Argentina.
An upper chamber (Senate) debate is due to take place within days, and then the proposal would move back to the lower House of Representatives. However, local reports suggest that – if approved – the Act could come into force by the end of the year.
