AMC wants $1m ad spots for Mad Man finale

There are a small number of occasions when broadcast networks seek $1 million or more for a 30 second commercial – most notably during a ‘Super Bowl’ ad-break. AMC is challenging the established rate cards by proposing a fee of more than $1 million for a spot during the series finale of Mad Men.
There is a bonus, however, in that buyers will also get a ‘free’ spot in The Walking Dead, which the network also broadcasts. As a benchmark AMC sold ad-breaks during the last episode of Breaking Bad for between $300,000 -$400,000 a time.
Moreover, AMC is not going to release all its ad-spots just yet. It reckons that when the finale gets closer it will get even more cash as interest builds. The final episodes of Mad Men will air in spring 2015.
