Spain’s TV pubcaster RTVE has launched a pilot 4K Ultra-HD channel, La pasión del Prado, a documentary channel that broadcast a 50 minute documentary shot in 4K based on the history of the Madrid gallery and the works of art housed there.
To produce the documentary, TVE has used the latest compression technologies under the HEVC format and has broadcast it with the DVB-T2 standard.
Companies such as Abertis, Sapec, Hispasat, LG, Sony, Panasonic, Samsung and a Madrid-based University have contributed to the project.
Hispasat is currently developing technology required efficiently to broadcast 4K material. The operator has already made various 4K broadcasts in Spain and Brazil, as well as several European countries.
