BT five year high as TV subs grow
May 10, 2013
BT’s pay-TV customer base increased by 40,000 to hit 810,000 in the last quarter with growth rates outpacing Virgin and Sky.
Total group revenues for the quarter dipped 2 per cent to £4.785 billion (€5.9bn) while full-year profits climbed 2 per cent to £6.18 billion on annual revenues down 5 per cent at £18.25 billion.
BT’s high-profile entry into broadcasting kicks off in August with the launch of three new sports channels, what looks to be a pay-TV price war. BT will give its three sports channels away free to customers who buy its broadband.
BT also added 211,000 residential customers for its super-fast fibre broadband service ‘BT Infinity’ in the first quarter of 2013 to reach a total of 1.3 million.
