Pay-TV gains momentum in Spain

Convergent packages along with better infrastructure is driving pay-TV growth with almost one in four (24.4 per cent) of homes in the country receiving pay-TV services as of the end of first half other year, according to the latest report from the regulator CNMC.
At the end of the second quarter, there were 5.5 million subscribers, with a gain of 1.4 million new clients in a year. Since June 2014, pay-TV has grown by 11.4 per cent in Spain, only exceeded by broadband (up 13.4 per cent) as the fastest-growing telecom service in the country.
By the end of the first half of 2015, 49.4 per cent of homes had a triple-play service with fixed and mobile phone and Internet, while 21.9 per cent chose to add pay-TV to the offer.
Monthly spend on bundled services fell in H1, down from €67.9 in the corresponding period in 2014 to €65.9; from €51.2 to €47.1 for quad play; and €39.7 to €38.2 for double play.
