StarTimes says it will invest $75 million in order to expand its digital satellite and DTT coverage over Kenya. StarTimes is competing locally with GOtv, Zuku and DStv.
According to StarTimes VP/Marketing Hans Han, “We intend to ride on our current 70 per cent digital television network coverage in the country to extend the reach of our informative, educative and entertaining channel offering to more Kenyans key in not only growing our market share but also giving them an enviable choice that will enrich their television viewing experience.”
StarTimes’ major expansion plans are targeting rural Kenya and the firm aims to be available to 80 per cent of the Kenyan population by the end of 2014 with its pay television and free to air digital television. Now available in Machakos, Migori, Trans-Nzoia, Laikipia and Muranga counties, the firm intends to expand into over 20 counties as the country gears to transition from analogue to digital television transmission.
