Cairo-based Nilesat, in a caption aired at 14.00 GMT on February 18th on state-run Nile News TV, says: “We will not allow for the return of the Brotherhood’s channels because they violate [our] media code of action”.

The Muslim Brotherhood is said to be behind Misr 25, already closed down. Another channel, London-based Al-Hiwar was also taken down. The new outlet is said to be Rabaa TV (“The Pulse of Freedom”), although reportedly its financing comes from Turkey (and the channel has subsequently gone on air in Turkey).

The channel is named after Rabia al-Adawiya Square in Cairo, where demonstrations took place last summer.
