Viaplay selects thePlatform
December 12, 2013
thePlatform, a white-label video publishing company and independent subsidiary of Comcast, has been selected to provide the back-end video management for Viaplay, the Nordics’ leading online service for TV shows, movies and sporting events.
Viaplay provides both online and set-top box-based TV services, and is part of Modern Times Group (MTG), the international entertainment broadcasting group. Under the agreement, thePlatform’s cloud-based, mpx video publishing system will manage Viaplay’s TV services to support viewers on PCs, smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, Xbox, PlayStation 3, as well as Viaplay’s OTT set-top box.
“thePlatform has an exceptional track record of managing large-scale online TV services around the globe,” said Niclas Ekdahl, CEO of Viaplay. “mpx enables us to centralize our video publishing efforts across all our territories and let our subscribers watch their favorite movies, sports and TV shows on their device of choice when convenient to them.”
