Forecast: Taiwan mobile comms market to grow at 3.9% CAGR
October 16, 2024

Taiwan’s mobile service revenues is poised to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.9 per cent from $6 billion (€5.5bn) in 2024 to $7.3 billion in 2029, driven mainly by the rising adoption of mobile data services, forecasts GlobalData, the data and analytics company.
GlobalData’s Taiwan Mobile Broadband Forecast (Q2 2024) reveals that mobile voice service revenue will decline at a CAGR of 4.3 per cent between 2024 and 2029 due to the falling voice average revenue per user (ARPU) levels, resulting from the growing user preference for OTT/Internet-based communication platforms.
Mobile data service revenue, on the other hand, will increase at a CAGR of 5.9 per cent over the same period, driven by the projected rise in the adoption of higher ARPU-5G services.
The average monthly mobile data usage is forecast to increase from 35 GB in 2024 to about 42.4 GB in 2029, driven by the growing consumption of high-bandwidth online entertainment and social media content over smartphones.
Kantipudi Pradeepthi, Telecom Analyst at GlobalData, commented: “5G subscriptions hold the majority share of the total mobile subscriptions in 2024 and will go on to account for over 95 per cent of the total mobile subscriptions share in 2029, mainly due to the increasing availability and adoption of 5G-enabled smartphones and the ongoing 5G network expansions by operators.
“Chunghwa leads the mobile services market, by subscription share in Taiwan as of 2024, followed by Taiwan Mobile and FarEasTone. Chunghwa will retain its leading position through 2029 due to the expansion of its 5G network in the country and strong focus on accelerating 5G service adoption by offering flexible pricing plans and diversified mobile value-added services such as music, movie, TV, and cloud gaming,” concluded Pradeepthi.
