As revealed by advanced-television.com in March, Chinese PC manufacturer Lenovo Group has confirmed that it is to launch a Smart TV product, dubbed ‘LeTV’ as well introducing a new cloud-computing strategy, as it seeks to diversify and meet the growing demand for Internet-connected devices.
The company, which overtook Dell in Q3 to become the world’s second-largest PC vendor by unit shipments after Hewlett-Packard, said the new LeTV will be an Internet-connected product and is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2012.
Lenovo also revealed that it would provide a new cloud service that will allow users to share content between multiple devices and help manage their personal information and social networking. Lenovo’s cloud service will automatically synchronise data from all devices, the company said, and will provide 200 gigabytes of space to users.
“The PC, communications and TV industries are currently undergoing a ‘smart’ transformation,” said Liu Jun, president of Lenovo’s mobile-Internet and digital-home-business division. “In the future, users will have many smart devices and will desire an integrated experience of hardware, software and cloud services.”
Lenovo Chief Executive Yang Yuanqing said that the company aspired to become the world leader in personal mobile Internet devices by providing customised applications for different products and creating ways to easily share and collaborate between devices.
