BBC backs down in ‘iPlayer only’ for its VoD

The BBC Trust has softened the corporation’s approach to BBC content being available on other VoD platforms outside the iPlayer. The broadcaster had earlier stipulated its content should only be syndicated on-demand via the iPlayer being integrated into the third party platform and preserving the iPlayer ‘look and feel.’
The BBC Trust has now said that while on-demand content is best presented in a “BBC environment” such as the iPlayer “…the Trust accepts that circumstances may occasionally arise that justify special arrangements that depart from this model…. The revised policy proposes a more flexible approach”.
The Trust proposes a range of ‘principles’ with which all syndication partners will be required to comply, including that content is accessed for free and carries no advertising and is easily identifiable as from the BBC.
