Spain: Streaming platforms mean reduced piracy

TV piracy is in decline thanks to the boom of streaming platforms in Spain, according to a report by OBS Business School. It says piracy has decreased by 25 per cent in the country due to the proliferation of OTT services with high quality content and the crackdown on TV pirates.
According to the study, 63 per cent of online consumers are users of a legal platform with 3 out of 5 Spaniards having access to two different platforms. The traffic on streaming platforms has increased by 70 per cent with people over 50 years old now very keen on the services previously dominated by the 20-40 years old segment.
GfK estimates that piracy in cinema and TV series has dropped by 30 per cent. Even so, overall the piracy fraud in Spain still amounts to a loss of €682 million, representing 130,000 jobs that could have created.
