A quarter of Vue cinemas go part-time
October 12, 2020
Nearly a quarter of Vue’s UK cinemas will shut for three days a week in the wake of the barren movie release schedule.
Twenty-one of the chain’s 87 sites will be closed from Tuesdays to Thursdays as of this week. The move is necessary “to ensure that our business is financially well-placed to withstand the uncertainty ahead”, a spokesperson said.
Vue’s announcement follows the temporary closure of all 127 Cineworld and Picturehouse cinemas after the latest James Bond movie was postponed, along with a number of other high-profile titles, until well into 2021.
The Odeon cinema chain last week decided to open 30 of its 120 locations from Fridays to Sundays only.
