Premier League broadcast rights hit £9.2bn
May 23, 2019
The Premier League has seen the value of its global broadcast rights increase by 8 per cent to £9.2 billion (€10.4 billion) for the three seasons between 2019 to 2022.
Despite a drop in the value of domestic rights, interim chief executive Richard Masters said foreign broadcasters are paying around 30 per cent more for games.
Masters, speaking at the FT Business of Football Summit, says overseas companies who can show all 380 games live each season are paying £4.2 billion in the 2019-2022 cycle, up from £3.1 billion.
Masters said that domestic broadcast rights have dropped in value from £5.4 billion to £5 billion despite 200 games being sold rather than 168 in the 2016-19 cycle.
Sky Sports will show the most matches (128) in UK followed by BT Sport (52 games), while Amazon will become the first streaming service to show Premier League football after it acquired a package of 20 games per season.
