Eutelsat says that globally there are now 155 Ultra-HD channels or feeds on air, up 24 per cent on the position at March 2018.

Michael Chabrol, Eutelsat’s SVP/New TV Formats, using data and analysis from Lyngsat, various UHD Forums and its own research, said that there were now 60 UHD channels being carried by various satellites, another 93 services available by IPTV operators and two DTT channels.

Chabrol was addressing delegates to the MIPTV focus on UHD which opened in Cannes on April 8^th.

While the four-day event is very much focused on 4K/UHD excellence, it is also debuting 8K at the market, with the world’s first all-8K ‘next generation’ screenings on Tuesday (April 9^th).

Panels and screenings in 4K come from Spain, Germany, Russia, Japan, France, Finland and India, while 8K screenings feature content from Japan, the USA, France and Italy.
