Basque-country based operator Euskaltel has become the first operator in Spain to integrate Amazon’s Prime Video into its TV line-up via its 4K Android-based STBs.

The company has beaten Movistar, Vodafone and Orange who are all still negotiating with Amazon for the launch of the service or a possible integration.

Vodafone announced in December a free one year promotion for Prime Video, but from Amazon’s platform – not as an integrated feature. Movistar is still negotiating a global alliance with Amazon similar to its Netflix agreement.

With the move, Euskaltel is already now Prime Video and Netflix using Google 4K Android-based STBs with plans to reach 50 per cent of its customers this year. Currently, Euskaltel has around 170,000 TV subscribers and reaches a total of 400,000 including its subsidiaries R and Telecable in the north of Spain.
