Spain’s Telefónica has announced several changes to its management team, including the appointment a new president of its domestic business, Telefónica España, in Emilio Gayo.

Gayo, former head of marketing and commercial department, will replace Luis Miguel Gilpérez and will be the righthand man of Jose María Álvarez-Pallete, the president of the whole group.

Gayo has been one of the men behind Telefónica’s convergent service in Spain, Movistar Fusion, a bundled package of super-fast Internet, premium TV and mobile and fixed phone services. Fusion has driven Telefónica to gain subscribers in Spain, with 3.7 million customers signing up for the offering.

Telefónica has divided its Latin American unit into two with Argentina, Chile, Peru and Uruguay falling under an ‘Hispam Sur’ division and Colombia, Mexico, Central America, Ecuador and Venezuela forming an ‘Hispam Norte’ unit.
