Google trials autoplay videos in search results
July 28, 2017
Internet giant Google is experimenting with autoplay videos that sees relevant trailers and clips played in response to users’ search results.
The feature puts the autoplaying video at the top of search results as part of the knowledge panel for certain searches. Searches for information about movies or TV shows pops up the video in the right-hand sidebar, which automatically plays once without ads. The videos automatically play for desktop users only (muted unless toggled otherwise), and are shown but require a tap to play for mobile users.
A Google spokesperson said: “We are constantly experimenting with ways to improve the search experience for our users, but have no plans to announce at this time.”
