US superstore chain Best Buy has reportedly closed 200 of its 500 in-store Oculus Rift VR demo stations.

Best Buy has yet to give a clear indication why the demo stations are being pulled, but Business Insider reports that Best Buy employees have informed them that often “days would go by without anyone wanting to try the headset”, and even during the key holiday season only “a few Oculus headsets per week” were being sold.

Another employee said that the demo units were plagued with bugs, making the units nigh-on unplayable.

The Oculus Rift headset launched in the UK in September 2016 with a RRP of £549 (€644). Some high street stores, including Currys and John Lewis, have already cut the selling price to £499.
