France: NRJ trials UHD/HDR on DTT
November 25, 2016
From Pascale Paoli-Lebailly in Paris
NRJ Group’s TV division that comprises of DTT channels NRJ 12 and Chérie 25 have renewed trials of UHD/HDR broadcasts in the DTT Paris area through Astra satellite after being given the go ahead from TV regulator CSA.
Initial experiments were conducted in 2014, but unlike those first tests that upscaled HD into UHD, NRJ 12 will broadcast a UHD native feed in the HDR standard. The goal of the trials – which will last 2 weeks – is to measure the required capacities for a UHD native broadcast and to test the HDR format.
Some 2.5 million UHD TV set are estimated to be installed in French homes.
