Google, LALIGA strengthen IP collaboration
June 17, 2026
Google and LALIGA are strengthening a strategic collaboration aimed at protecting intellectual property rights and fostering a safe and transparent digital ecosystem. This joint cooperation, proactively developed throughout the 2025/26 season, has enabled notable progress in communication efficiency and in the prompt handling of notifications submitted by LALIGA.
As a reflection of the success of this direct collaboration framework, a significant reduction has been recorded in the volume of incidents reported through channels linked to Google services throughout the 2025/26 season, establishing a consistent downward trend as competitions approach their conclusion.
This alliance forms part of LALIGA’s vision of actively cooperating with leaders in the technology sector to safeguard the sustainability of the creative and entertainment industries. In this spirit of joint work, Google makes its platforms and technologies available, acting as neutral tools that facilitate connection and access to information for millions of users around the world. Both entities agree that technology should be a driver of innovation and lawful dissemination, and therefore reject any attempt at fraud or abuse by external actors unrelated to this collaboration.
The results achieved through this cooperation confirm the effectiveness of Google’s reporting tools and demonstrate that coordination is the most appropriate approach to addressing content protection on the internet in an effective and sustainable manner.
Both organisations reaffirm their commitment to working hand in hand against unauthorised or deceptive practices that harm user experience and undermine trust in the digital economy.
“For Google, respect for intellectual property rights and the provision of a safe digital environment are fundamental pillars. That is why we have multiple mechanisms in place to prevent the misuse of our tools by third parties, and we maintain ongoing investment in technology to actively combat piracy. This close collaboration with LALIGA demonstrates that, through proactive communication and the proper use of our reporting channels across our products, it is possible to provide content creators with highly effective, agile, and transparent technical solutions that bring security to the entertainment sector,” commented Lino Cattaruzzi, President of Google Iberia.
“LALIGA remains firmly committed to the fight against piracy. Collaboration is essential to putting an end to this scourge, and being able to count on major players such as Google strengthens us in our purpose. Now, together with Google, we are becoming increasingly effective in defending football, intellectual property, the entertainment sector, and the integrity of fans,” added Javier Tebas, President of LALIGA.
