Starlink trims US fees

May 8, 2026

By Chris Forrester

Starlink has lowered its introductory broadband pricing for the first three months of service. Specifically, the 100 Mb/s tier now costs $29 (€24.70) per month (down from $50), the 200 Mb/s tier $59 per month (down from $80) and Residential Max $99 per month (down from $120).

This is not the first time that Starlink has tried a promotional pricing tier. Starlink previously was running a $39/$69/$109 promotion for six months for its 100/200/Max plans respectively, so the headline price dropped by $10 for the first three months.

Equity research analysts at investment bank BNP Paribas advise clients to be aware that the price cut might not be all it appears.

“While this looks like a big cut to the headline pricing, the total cost of the first six months of service actually increased by 0.5 per cent to 1.3 per cent under the new promotion, due to the shortened promo period. In our view, Starlink’s move is aimed at attracting more customers with the lower headline pricing. Overall, we continue to see Starlink as a rising threat to cable and fibre players, with today’s pricing move providing yet further confirmation that broadband competition is getting worse. Moreover, the latest Ookla test results suggest Starlink’s service is becoming more competitive with terrestrial services: Starlink’s median download speed increased by 25 per cent+ in Q1 2026, with upload speeds and latency both improving despite the rapidly growing customer base.”

The bank says that on a six months basis the new promotional pricing is actually a price increase vs the old promotion.

“In our view this change in promotional pricing is a signal that Starlink intends to accelerate broadband subscriber growth as it approaches an IPO. In that light, it’s hard to imagine that broadband competition will improve in the near-term,” said BNP Paribas.
